Data Analysis Process
1 | Data Definition & Cleaning
The work begins when you send the data to Ignatius. Our first task is to thoroughly understand the data you sent to us; we clean the data, and review the data headers of all the information you send, and produce a Data Definition Document. The Data Definition Document is a Microsoft Word document that acts as a “sounding board” we use to ask your team questions concerning terms, anomalies, flows and flags in your data. We can only conduct a thorough analysis if we understand how your data is constructed, and what foundational assumptions underlie the operation. A mutual review of the Data Definition Document is always helpful to get everyone on the same page.
2 | Initial Analysis
The purpose of the initial analysis is to define the numerical basis of your operation as it is today; how many orders do you pick per day? How many order-lines? How many SKUs are in the system? What does the Pareto curve look like? How is the cubic velocity of the system distributed? Etc. We process, chart, and analyze your operation as it is now to provide your team a recognizable and verifiable baseline of your current operations upon which we can extrapolate the future values. We recreate your system as it exists mathematically.
3 | Communicate & Iterate
Once the initial data analysis of your current operation is finished, we present the findings to your operational team. The purpose of this meeting is to validate the analysis results, and to ensure it represents an accurate picture of your current operation. If your team identifies any anomalies, we refine the analysis until you see your operation accurately and precisely represented in the operational values we produce.
4 | Grow the Design
Your organization can grow in a lot of ways: More customers, the same customers buying more, lower costs. Each type of growth has a different effect on the way your operation will run in the future. Working within your ROI constraints, we collaboratively come to a projection of your organization's growth. From your projection we create a mathematical model of the system you will need in three, five, or however many years for which you need to design.
5 | Complete Design Values
Though the Design Values are the output of our analysis, they aren't the only benefit of the process. The analysis process gives us key insight into your how you operate your distribution center. In our analysis we gain an understanding of the way you think about your operation, and that understanding guides how we think in creating concepts. We have never had a partner that knew as much about their operation before our data analysis as they did afterward.
